nooks and crannies

my nook

I am always curious about where people sit when at their "window to the world". We all have a nook or cranny carved out for whiling away (sometimes needless) hours  blogging, surfing, pinning or pining or for the productive... working.
I wear almost all those hats one time of another.

I find it interesting the things we surround ourselves with...pretty little notions, and there a pile of important paperwork, carelessly strewn. More or less organized chaos.
If I were to add up all the hours in a day or week sitting at this desk balanced against my productivity I would probably fall off my chair.
It's not just the frivolous behavior allotted in this time.
This is where I learn things, find out about the most important news in the world, the rare good and the devastation.
It's where I meet people.
It's where I talk to strangers and friends.
And where I find the best bargains.
So, Jo Packham if you are listening how bout another WWC..."Where Women Compute"...
I'd love to see other people's niche's

velvet revival

Velvet...the word just sounds plush and expensive.
It's no wonder that is used as an adjective.
"She had a voice like velvet"
"smooth like velvet"
"behind the velvet ropes"
And who can forget the creamy goodness Velveeta cheese?
I mean what could be better, I ask you?

Poor velvet the only time it gets a bad wrap is when it is used in conjunction with "Elvis" and "paintings"
But besides that is is just about my favorite verbalization.

So a no brainer that I love to incorporate it in my artwork.
It's a challenge to find the perfect snip of tattered velvet to trim the edge of a painting.
It needs equal parts of faded hue and fabulous fraying.
Nothing quite beats the texture and feel.

my favorite blue velvet pillow, totally worth the blue arm I sported carrying it around the flea market  caused by the fugitive dyes

So like a bad penny turning up, here I am again.
The newest issue of FOLK magazine is out and I play a small part!

Thanks to Ben Ashby and all the players behind the scenes that pull this wonderful new magazine together...and at the same time making the rest of us look good!
Many , many thanks!

And much to you all's chagrin I will not be cropping up on any glossy pages (at least not next month). But my better half will be!
Watch for next month's Folk for hubby is trying to upstage me!
I am as excited as he is!

Oh and don't forget to give the kitties extra lovin'  (Is that possible?) February is Cat Appreciation Month!
